Photo Birth Announcements That Make A Difference

For parents who have just recently welcomed a child into the world, birth announcements are tremendously useful. They serve as an effective way to get the word out about the birth of your child to your friends and family members. You have loads of options to choose from in birth announcements, from the classic to the whimsical. For announcements that leave a lasting impression with any one who receives them however, photo birth announcements are the way to go.

As you may have gathered, photo birth announcements are pretty much like any other birth announcement, but with the important addition of a photo. This simple addition is often just the thing you need to make your announcement stand out from the crowd. Pictures are simply a lot more effective at conveying how your child looks than even the most flowery message. You could write whole volumes describing how your child looks, but they simply won’t do as good a job as a simple photo can. In addition, you only have so much space in a standard birth announcement, and you will likely run out before you have exhausted everything that you want to say!

Photo birth announcements can be done easily enough at home using nothing more than a computer, a digital camera or scanner, image editing software and a printer. Of course you do have to be aware of a few things that can affect the final appearance of the photo.

A key factor to consider is the resolution in which the image is reproduced. You have probably seen several photo birth announcements printed at home using the above mentioned setup wherein the photo leaves a lot to be desired in terms of clarity. The most common culprit in such situations is a photo taken or printed at too low a resolution. It is important to take pictures or scan them at a sufficient resolution that allows for maximum clarity. You certainly don’t want to use too high a resolution as that will take up too much disk space unnecessarily and may even slow down your computer. In general, setting your camera or scanner to capture at 250 dpi to 300 dpi should be enough to get you great looking results in a typical consumer printer.

The type of paper that you will use bears some consideration as well. As affordable and readily available as they are, you will want to avoid using ordinary copy paper since they are too thin for most purposes. You should instead print your photo birth announcements on papers that are specifically intended for clear photo reproduction.
