The most common culprit in such situations is a photo taken or printed at too low a resolution. It is important to take pictures or scan them at a sufficient resolution that allows for maximum clarity. You certainly don’t want to use too high a resolution as that will take up too much disk space unnecessarily and may even slow down your computer. In general, setting your camera or scanner to capture at 250 dpi to 300 dpi should be enough to get you great looking results in a typical consumer printer.
The type of paper that you will use bears some consideration as well. As affordable and readily available as they are, you will want to avoid using ordinary copy paper since they are too thin for most purposes. You should instead print your photo birth announcements on papers that are specifically intended for clear photo reproduction.
